MRTN CSTR - Arquitectura espectral
‘Arquitectura espectral’ is the second work by sound artist MRTN CSTR (Martín Castro) from Córdoba, Argentina for netlabel ‘Modismo’. In this EP made up of three tracks we are able to appreciate and enjoy once again digital atmospheres which are characteristic in his musical duty: gliding melodies, delicate rhythms, fine atmospheres, counterpoints.
Martín builds his songs from technology, he experiments with creation of waveworms, sound synthesis, complex structures created with specialized sequencers and instruments for the software Reaktor. However, the results are far from being robotics or dehumanized because the structures (the ‘buildings’ of this architecture) become cozy, puzzling at the same time and profound, inviting us to inhabit them.
Moving musical ideas based on algorithm and mathematical formulae from theory to practice tends to be a challenge that is rarely well resolved, as elevating a structure from paper to physical reality, and by ‘well resolved’ I mean experimenting the beauty of a good listening at last, the pleasure of self-abandonment to contemplation beyond the techniques or technologies utilized for its construction, which it is fully accomplished in ‘Arquitectura espectral’.
As a good sculptor, Castro reveals the shape of his compositions from the development of sound layers that are added, subtracted, that interact and move around space, generating tensions and distensions, creating sounds-cells and sonic-organisms pieces that evolve in their route. This is the difference between the robot and its perfect and synchronized movements, versus the organic bodies-muscles with their subtle differences and their impossibility of doing exactly the same, the same way, all the time, where one could be more efficient than the other, but never more interesting to contemplate or, in this case, to listen.

MRTN CSTR - Arquitectura espectral
“Arquitectura espectral” es el segundo trabajo para el netlabel “Modismo” del artista sonoro procedente de Córdoba, Argentina, MRTN CSTR (Martín Castro). En este EP de tres tracks podemos volver a apreciar y disfrutar de los ambientes digitales que son característicos en su quehacer musical: melodías planeadoras, ritmos sutiles, finos ambientes, contrapuntos.
Martín construye sus temas a partir de la tecnología, experimenta con la creación de waveforms, síntesis de sonido, estructuras complejas creadas con secuenciadores especializados e instrumentos para el software Reaktor. Sin embargo los resultados distan de ser robóticos o deshumanizados, pues las estructuras (los “edificios” de esta arquitectura) resultan acogedoras, a la vez que enigmáticas y profundos, invitándonos a habitar en ellas.
Llevar desde la teoría a la práctica ideas musicales basadas en algoritmos y fórmulas matemáticas suele ser un desafío pocas veces bien resuelto, tal como es elevar una estructura desde el papel a la realidad física, y con “bien resuelto” me refiero a experimentar finalmente la belleza de una buena escucha, el placer de abandonarse a la contemplación más allá de las técnicas o tecnologías empleadas para su construcción, cosa que en "Arquitectura espectral" se cumple a cabalidad.
Como buen escultor, Castro va develando la forma de sus composiciones a partir del desarrollo de capas de sonidos que se suman, restan, interactúan y se mueven por el espacio, generando tensiones y distensiones, creando sonidos-células y piezas sonoras-organismos que evolucionan en su trayecto. Es la diferencia entre el robot y sus perfectos y sincronizados movimientos, versus los cuerpos-músculos biológicos con sus sutiles diferencias, con su imposibilidad de hacer lo mismo exactamente de la misma manera todo el tiempo, donde uno podrá ser más eficiente que el otro, pero nunca más interesante de contemplar o, en este caso, escuchar.
